School did nothing wrong when it punished student for using AI, court rules

A federal court has ruled against parents who sued a Massachusetts school district for punishing their son for using an artificial intelligence tool to complete an assignment, finding that school officials had the authority to determine the student had cheated. The student had indiscriminately copied and pasted text from the AI application, including citations to nonexistent books, and the court found that the school's punishment, including a failing grade and a Saturday detention, was reasonable.
